week 1
Design Studio 1B - Ms Micca
09.01.23
Micca started out with a simple practice and told us to close our eyes while she described a series of scenarios to be imaginative about. We were then tasked to create a forced connection art piece in A4 together with a partner, a 4 week work process that would be presented with 7 slides.

Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
10.01.23
For the first lesson, Jackson had prepared a guide of how we can do an in depth site analysis. It also helps that he taught us the importance of site research and historical elements to make our purpose for creating the project more meaningful and legitimate.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
12.01.23
For model making OSH had prepared us to learn about materials for our project. Our first practice for model making also tasked us to create tiling and tessellation patterns using cement. To create the mold we need to develop 4 foam molds to form 1 tile. She also taught us about forced associations and how to use it in context with our project. This was something that we had a little practice on during design thinking lessons and may add to the project narrative that can shape our final outcomes.

week 2
Design Studio 1B- Ms Micca
16.01.23
Today me and my group partner Henry thought about a focus that we wanted to have. The topic of innovation and rising sea levels, to approach it with the idea of floating cities. Though it has been done before, I believe there is potential in the execution process to make it more sustainable and feasible. Though Micca did comment that we should think about something more unique. I believe that she is right and perhaps there should be something we can touch on as an idea to tackle the issue.

Design Studio 1B- Mr Jackson
17.01.23
I was tasked to rework my 4 drawings, the timeline history and the journey experience of users. Jackson advised research leaning toward how technology like meta has evolved to create unique shopping experiences. My installation aims to utilize technology as a means to create a physical connection between vendors and shoppers.
Design Studio 1B- Ms Ong Sheng Hua
19.01.23
Today we continued to polish and brainstorm ideas to form new narratives for our project direction. For model making we also filled in the molds with concrete and left it to dry. A group project we were tasked to do for model making involved creating a light box that demonstrates 2 different lighting elements and a 1 min video to showcase it.
week 3
Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
26.01.23
For OSH’s class we were tasked on week 2 to create speculative narrative collages to demonstrate our ideas in the site space. OSH mentioned how my designs were interesting and promising, but it could also introduce more spatial elements related to the site to draw a connection to the design and space.

week 4
Design Studio 1B- Ms Micca
30.01.23
For today all of us were told to upload our presentation for the open call year 2108 competition to miro. Many groups presented and I realized that I had focused too much on brand identity rather than the research. I know now that the slides would have to include more highlighted research.
Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
31.01.23
For the design studio we presented our drawings to Jackson as individual presentations. I was told to rehash the spatial quality of my drawings based on a personal level of experience and how it would look within the space. For my timeline I decided to focus on interactive art and how it changed over the years, influencing narratives for design and art. Jackson told me to think about how my design can bring a new dimension to the concept of interactive design and art. My goal is to create a spatial interactive experience with dried foods, utilizing technology as a platform for learning and connecting with the public. In this lesson we also learned about crowd circulation and how it is important to map it out in our site to form a good argument to our project relevance and the site.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
02.02.23
For design studio today we were tasked to think more about our speculative drawings coming together to create a parti model. OSH had some advice on how my spatial interaction should have some focus and context to why I designed it. She also recommended me to think about the model as a multi level grid with different rooms or spaces for various spatial experiences. She also told me to think about where i can put my banana product making journey, and that it should not distract from the people experiencing a spatial connection to the dried foods.
week 5
Design Studio 1B- Ms Micca
06.02.23
Henry and I presented for the 2108 art competition and we managed it well based on Micca’s feedback. Improvements were to include more visuals to highlight our points in the presentation and to remove the text and border from our poster.

Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
07.02.23
For my design regarding spatial elements, space manipulation needs to be the narrative medium that drives my project spatially. This involves creating almost like having multiple purposes using spatial mechanism movement.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
09.02.23
OSH told me how my design should consider a rhythmic grid system that involves a variety of mechanisms and rooms vertically and horizontally.
week 6
Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
14.02.23
Design a grid system of 1m x 1.04m and strategically plot key journey points section/floor plan like a bubble diagram. Have a reason for designing movement in the space and utilize grid design to be multifunctional as furniture, spatial experience and architecture. Have the design of each part be highlighted in contrast rather than have many and messy. Strategically design and implement these elements

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
15.02.23
We went to a glass making workshop to learn about different types of glass art making and glass types. Tempered glass, laminated tempered and tough glass are used for different purposes as the chemical structures are different.

week 7
Design Studio 1B - Micca
21.02.23
For Design thinking our groups were tasked to form AI created scenarios that showed the diversification of our ideas. We were also advised to create prompts in a more structured and objective manner using our creativity and imagination.

Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
22.02.23
Design Studio had me worried about my floor plan and section drawings, i believe Jackson needed me to work out carefully the rules of drawing a floorplan to really make it conventional. He also mentioned my ribbon design concept can be less blocky and the circulation should be purposeful, using that ribbon concept to create a sequential experience throughout. Making the model first alongside the 3D form makes the floor plan and elevation design easier to think of.. he mentioned that my ribbon should also be a skin that warps into shape and fulfill multiple design purposes

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
23.02.23
Create my structure from level 1-2 as a smelling tasting and visual sensorial, from light, moderate and strong values. Design to zone according to the dried food types. Level 3 to be reserved for a tasting area of cooked food using the dried goods.
week 8

Design Studio 1B (replacement) - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
27.02.23
Consider adding or thinking about the type of material the floors/walls should be to compliment the spatial element of the ribbon. Think more about the ribbon as a circulation activity space that is all about the sensorial interaction with dried foods.
week 9
Design Studio 1B - Micca
06.03.23
For design thinking, we had to present a unique persona for our project. Shira drew our persona while me and Henry did a generation for environmental design on DALL E. We also had to describe our persona through descriptive writing which helps flush out our character in the futuristic world.

Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
07.03.23
My consultation with Jackson was related to keeping the good circulation while designing more detailed interactions and using a more lego block-like motif or sticking with a consistent design concept.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
09.03.23
Consultation with OSH focused on my design motif on level 3. She also proposed how my architectural and spatial motif can be focused on sensory intensity with the dried foods using a porous concept to create spatial variety.

week 10
Design Studio 1B - Micca
13.03.23
For design thinking, we were tasked in creating 3 unique storyboards of 3 frames using our persona to portray the overall ideas of the project. As a group we decided to focus more on the concept of Expansion for living, leisure and work.

Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
14.03.23
Jackson gave me some comments on my design and how it can incorporate less of a uniformity in the cubic designs and let the language flow naturally. He also told me to draw out my floor plan as it was going to be integral in the overall project to demonstrate drawing style and skills.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
16.03.23
Design studio (OSH)
OSH gave us a lecture on stone and gave us the task to create a CMF presentation to submit as part of week 11’s submission. There was no consultation session that week so I decided to continue to work on my design.
Design Studio 1B (replacement) - Mr Jackson
18.03.23
Jackson had me to rework on my floorplans to make it clearer and also start on my section plan to be able to see the overall side view of the structure. He told me to move away from a booth type design for level 3 and look into case studies on how interiors and architecture can create unique displays for products.

week 11
Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
21.03.23
I printed out my updated floorplans and got more comments on how it can be made clearer with lineweights without the need to change grey and black colours. He liked the size of my walls, and the floors being grey works in his opinion. He also clarified with me what the 1m mark meant and how its meant to be cut across the entire level 1. Anything below 1m on level 1 will be faded, while everything above 1m on level 1 will be black. level 2 steps will be cut and show just a dashed outline to describe the outline of stairs, while also emphasizing a void. Section plan would be the same, and also delete unwanted, unseen people and objects from behind the structure.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
24.03.23
Design studio (OSH)
In design studio consultation I had a discussion and brainstorm session about how my design should already focus on the activities incorporating the structure and not have the monotonous language of smelling being prevalent throughout the entire structure but rather create interactive activities using smelling and other senses in tangent with the ribbon. Also can start thinking about materials to perhaps provide more inspiration on the overall design.
week 12
Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
28.03.23
Activities and architecture supporting one another to create more varieties in spatial experience. Floor plans should show more moments of excitement and interactions. Use 3 line weight variations for floor plan and stairs to be the same color as ground but outlined. Research about iconic material or modules used for wholesale markets (perhaps using something already produced for sustainability?). Render major spaces and activities with some variations of perspective.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
30.03.23
Design studio (OSH)
Consultation with OSH we talked about modular construction with modules that are already existing in shape, form and material. We also talked about other options through material construction that could possibly link history and contemporary construction. Materials like rattan weaving, timber flooring/pallets, frosted acrylic are some materials and applications that can be considered. She gave me an example of a designer that used rattan weaving in his architectural walls.
week 13
Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
04.04.23
Today I showed Jackson my complete design and there was some discussion about how my grid-like framing is fighting for attention with my main modular design and should just be removed if it doesn’t involve any spatial interactivity. Decided to scrap the frame design in place for steel cables for the sake of safety. Jackson mentioned that some of the activities in the drawing look too strong and can be toned down. He also advised that I should think about colouring the flooring to emphasize the already strong mesh pattern in the form of the mesh grating. And reminded me to cut the floor at 1 metre height at the highest point in each level.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
06.04.23
OSH advised that since my design uses cables that I can emphasize by either sticker printing or using wire to paste on clear plastic. Can use mini jewelry beads to create a contrast between the activity boxes also. My physical model should also be one sided to showcase the interior spaces of the design.
week 14
Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
11.04.23
I had done my floor plan and discussed with Jackson how to make it clearer. He told me I could add color to it to make it look more interesting and mentioned that I should think about using metal string to “sew” the cables into my design.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
13.04.23
Discussion with OSH this week had me thinking about my presentation board drafting and how I can think about the layout with the renders and floorplans. She also mentioned how I may need to create more foundation on my model to allow it to stand within the empty void space of the atrium. She also told me to finish the floor plans and elevation so I can focus on the laser cut files of which I showed her part of my design for the model.
week 15
Design Studio 1B - Mr Jackson
18.04.23
This week marks the final week of consultation with Jackson, so I showed him my floor plan and elevation plan line weights and final changes that I could make to get it done well. He told me to change the side of my elevation plan so that people can see the overall design of my structure. Also discussed with him about the layout of my presentation board and what I should include within it. Most of it had to do with how I can show my structural design from different angles with the activities with a hierarchy in the layout so that I can create an organized board where everything is visibly understandable.

Design Studio 1B - Ms Ong Sheng Hua
20.04.23
This week marks the final week of consultation with OSH, we mostly did our own thing and confirmed some final thoughts about our presentation board with her, along with showing her our models that we have built. She also mentioned the CMF board which we have to display alongside our model to showcase the design elements that would be in play. She was also nice enough to give me her rattan so that i can make a weaving example for my CMF board.
